On January 20, 2018 Project PIEDRA, in conjunction with the Jersey City Board of Education, hosted a Three Kings Day Dinner for displaced families from Puerto Rico. Families celebrated the day with a traditional Puerto Rican dinner where Jersey City Police Officers and Firemen served families. Not only were families treated to a delicious meal but each student in attendance received a backpack and gifts from the Three Kings! Moreover, each family received a Target gift card to provide some relief in their transition to our city. Project PIEDRA invited numerous stakeholders including Dr. Lyles, Jersey City District Superintendent, who gave an heartfelt word to families that were in attendance. Marcos Vigil, Director of Housing, Economics, Development and Commerce, a native of Fajardo, Puerto Rico, also provided words of encouragement to family members. Many thanks to all stakeholders, donors and sponsors who made this event possible.

On the evening of December 21, 2017, Francisco and Osvaldo shared our story, mission, and vision with the 2nd largest district in New Jersey, the Jersey City Board of Education. Board members, central office administration, and several hundred teachers and community members were in attendance at the JCBOE meeting. The community embraced Project PIEDRA and it immediately showed as various individuals from the board and community walked over to meet us and exchange contact information to assist in our efforts.
